Whether purchasing a first home, undergoing extensive renovations to accommodate for an expanding family, or finally finding the perfect home to start the next chapter of their lives, it feels like many families around us this year are in a state of transition.
Thinking back on our own decision to move from our loft in New Westminster and to leave our studio/meeting space in Vancouver, it too was with feelings of wanderlust and excitement. With two very young babes in tow, we ventured off to Victoria ready for our next adventure. Looking back on our loft, it was a place where we met with many of our wedding and portrait clients (perhaps we even met you there!), it was our gallery space, and where Chris and I as a newly married couple obsessed over the details of everything in our new space. It was where, over much discussion between us, decisions from everything from paint choices to the course of our life trajectories were made. It was where we made great friendships, launched our business to a full time venture, and spent countless hours with meetings, editing into the wee hours, and spending time with friends and family. And later still, the loft was the first place where one babe was brought home after the hospital, and where another was brought earth side right within those walls. It was where one learned to walk (quite tentatively) on the hardwood floors, and where another watched her first fireworks over the river from our balcony. All these, and many more memories in one small space. It was home.
Leaving behind a home with so many memories can be bittersweet. We can totally relate to the K family, as they prepare themselves to say thank you and goodbye to their home, and wanted to do a portrait session as a way to celebrate all the special moments they had created together in that space. We hope that when you look through these images, you remember what it was like to bring your babies into your room for a snuggle during the night, or to play outside with them in that yard. Here’s a peek into the K family’s Home Session…
K family, we wish you a smooth transition to your new home, and wish you all the best as you create new memories with your family there! Happy packing and unpacking!!
